Ingredients

Measured from the catalog payload.

  • 1 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 5 slices pineapple
  • 6 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1/3 cup shortening
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 piece egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 5 pieces maraschino cherries

Instructions

9 cooking steps

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius).
  2. Place the butter in a cake pan and melt it in the oven.
  3. Remove the pan from the oven and sprinkle the brown sugar evenly over the melted butter.
  4. Arrange the pineapple slices over the sugar. Place a maraschino cherry in the center of each pineapple ring, if desired.
  5. Combine the flour, white sugar, shortening, baking powder, milk, egg, and salt in a mixing bowl. Beat with an electric mixer until well combined.
  6. Pour the batter evenly over the pineapple layer in the cake pan.
  7. Bake for 45 to 50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
  8. Remove from the oven and let cool for 5 minutes. Run a knife around the edge of the pan to loosen, then invert the cake onto a serving plate.
  9. Serve while still warm. Enjoy!
